Plain scarves are great for a casual and classy look. They are available in a range of colours and are usually available in every type of material, whether it be cotton, chiffon, silk or jersey.Years back there were not many options on the type of fabric or colour that you could wear and most women would only wear black or shades of dark colours so that they were not noticed much. Many women choose to wear black, not because it is obligatory, but because it is farthest removed from being an adornment as Surah al-Noor 24:31 said:
“…and not to show off their adornment…”
There are reports which indicate that the women of the Sahaabah used to wear black. Abu Dawood (4101) narrated that Umm Salamah said: “When the words ‘and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)’ [al-Noor 24:31 – interpretation of the meaning] were revealed, the women of the Ansaar went out looking as if there were crows on their heads because of their garments.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
Please note that It is permissible for us to wear any colour of clothing so long as it covers our ‘awrah, and does not resemble men’s clothing, and is not so tight as to show the shape of our limbs or so thin as to show what is beneath it, and does not provoke temptation. So, we as women do like to experiment and complement our outfits and plain hijabs are the types of hijab most of us hijabi’s will go for as sometimes we can shy away from prints and whether it will suit us. So a plain colour is usually something you just cannot go wrong with! A plain hijab can also easily be coordinated with any outfit that you might pick to wear to work or somewhere special we might head.
Plain hijabs are comfortable giving us that little boost for the everyday places that we might go. Alternatively, a selection of Everyday plain hijabs are great value for money! Why not pair your plain hijab with a long flowing dress, a pair of leather heels and a snazzy cardigan to brighten up your day.
