5 Fun Activities To Do At Home

Get crafty with your little one this Ramadan with the activities below:

1. Zakat Till

Get a till or large jar and design a label for it with your little one that says “Zakat Till”. Encourage everyone in your family to contribute money to the Zakat fund, throughout the month. Always praise your little one whenever they make a contribution. By the end of the month, together with your kids, decide where you can donate the funds to.

2. Kindness Journal

Purchase a plain notebook or sketch pad and invite your child to decorate the cover in whichever way they choose/prefer. Each day, encourage the child to document the acts of kindness they performed during the day. Of course, young ones may not be able to write, but you could always encourage them to illustrate. Kindness journals make wonderful memories. Imagine flipping through your child’s Kindness Journal a few years later!

3. DIY Dhikr Bead set (Prayer beads)

This craft is both fun and spiritual! Collect different types of beads (33 beads of various shapes, textures & colours) that your little one would like to use. Choose a thick string or thread and pass the beads through the thread. Once, all the beads have been strung, secure the ends together and attach a larger bead, tassel or charm. Voila! Your child’s very own Dhikr bead set!

4. Mason Jar Ramadan Lanterns for your Kid’s Room

For this activity, you will need tissue papers of about 2-3 different shades, a mason jar, 6-8 small stars and crescents (made on thick paper or board), glue, and a battery-operated candle. Paste the stars and crescents scattered around the inside of the jar. Thereafter, cut out the tissue paper into a square, glue the outside of the jar and paste a thin layer of tissue papers around the outside. Leave the jar to dry and place the battery-operated candle inside. A friendly new companion in your kid’s room during the Ramadan season.

5. DIY Simple Eid Cards

Handmade Eid cards are very special gifts to be given to friends & family.

Cut out stencils of a crescent with a star, a mosque or a lantern. Take an A4 board of any colour (if white is readily available, you may invite your little one to sponge the board with their favourite shade of paint) and ask your little one to trace around the stencil. Glue the stencilled area and sprinkle glitter. You may also use glitter boards for this task— but, why deprive kids of messy play?
